If you want to experience the glacier where they filmed you can go on these tours: Skaftafell Glacier Hike, Skaftafell Glacier Walk and Ice Climbing or Blue Ice Experience which all take you climbing on Svínafellsjökull glacier. It can be seen in season 2 and 3 as most of the beyond the wall scenes were filmed there. It is easily accessable from the Ring Road and there are not many places you can visit as close as Svínafellsjökull. Svínafellsjökull is an outlet glacier of the Vatnajökull glacier that offers amazing views. Photo: HBO North of the Wall (Svínafellsjökull) - S02E06, S02E07, S02E08, S02E10 It can also be seen when Ygritte steals Jon´s sword and gets him into the cave. This is where the wildlings set up the camp in season 3 north of the wall. According to folklore, Dimmuborgir is also the home of a famous troll named Grýla and her third husband Leppalúði. It is one of the most popular natural tourist attractions in northern Iceland. The area is composed of various volcanic caves and rock formations. Wildling Camp (Dimmuborgir) - S03E01, S03E02, S03E05ĭimmuborgir is a large area of unusually shaped lava fields east of Mývatn.
